Jorgenson Earns Podium Finish on Day Two at Big Ten Championships

Nebraska women’s swimming and diving team completed the second day of the Big Ten Championship in Columbus, Ohio headlined by a school record and two finals appearances.

Gena Jorgenson opened the day by securing an eighth-place finish in the 500 freestyle preliminaries with a 4:41.27 giving her enough to make the finals. In the finals, Jorgenson improved her previous school record of 4:41.03 with a 4:39.31 sixth-place finish. The junior from Aberdeen, S.D., now holds the top two fastest times for this event in school history. 

Riley Miklos and Jazmyn Lunn both logged personal bests in the 500 freestyle preliminaries. Miklos swam a 4:48.47 finishing in 29th, while Lunn swam a 4:55.92, placing 41st. 

Six Huskers swam in the 200 IM prelims. Among the top finishers in this event were Maia Hall (32nd, 2:00.72), Sydney McCracken (37th, 2:01.92) and Marissa Laurin (45th, 2:01.93) who all secured personal bests. 

Beatrix Tanko qualified for the C final in the 50 free with a time of 22.47. Tanko logged a time of 22.50 in the final for a 20th-place finish in the event. Anna Vlachou added a 29th-place finish (22.72) as well as a career best in the event’s prelims. Maisie Gilford finished 36th with a time of 22.98. 

A team of JoJo Randby, Gilford, Tanko and Vlachou swam the 200 free relay in a school-record 1:29.97 to secure a ninth-place finish. 

In the diving well, sophomore Abby Baxter scored a 266.10 on the one-meter board prelims putting her in 17th place. Kelsey Clairmont grabbed a 30th-place prelim spot with a 239.20, while Antonina Harned scored a 216.95 and 45th-place finish. Nettie Knapton placed 48th with a 206.25. 

After the second day of competition, the Huskers currently sit in ninth in the team standings with 154 points. Tomorrow’s session will begin at 9 a.m. (CT) with prelims and will continue at 4 p.m. (CT) with finals. Live results are available on huskers.com and the meet can be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
