Brice Williams’ 23 points led three Huskers in double figures, as Nebraska overcame a 13-point deficit to record an 86-72 win over Washington Wednesday night.
The senior led NU with 23 points, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and added four assists as Nebraska out-scored Washington, 49-25, in the second half. Juwan Gary had 14 of his 17 points in the second half and added seven rebounds, while Connor Essegian added 16 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, off the bench.
Nebraska shot 53 percent on the night, including 11-of-19 from 3-point range while holding Washington to 40 percent shooting after halftime after UW opened the game with a blistering performance in the first 15 minutes to build a double-figure lead.
Trailing 47-37 at the break, Nebraska used a 10-2 run in the first 2:51 to whittle a 10-point halftime deficit to 49-47 and force a Washington timeout after two straight baskets from Gary. The Huskers continued the run after the time out as a basket by Gary tied the score at 49 before a Williams 3-pointer gave NU its first lead since the opening minutes, capping an 11-0 Husker spurt. The Huskers trailed 57-56 after a 3-pointer from Makhi Mason with 11:17 left, but responded with a 7-1 run keyed by Williams and Essegian to extend the lead to 63-58 with just under eight minutes remaining and never trailed again.
