Huskers Start Postseason with PRC Championships

The No. 9 Nebraska rifle team will compete in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 8-9 at The X-Count in Fort Wayne, Ind. The smallbore competition is set to begin at 6:45 a.m. (central) on Saturday, and the air rifle will begin at 6:30 a.m. (central) on Sunday. Live results can be found here.

The field for this weekend’s championships features seven teams. Five of the top ten teams in the country are in the Patriot Rifle Conference field, including No. 2 Alaska-Fairbanks, No. 5 TCU, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 7 Air Force, and No. 9 Nebraska. No. 12 Ohio State and No. 16 UTEP round out the rankings for the PRC. The Huskers have competed against every team in the conference except for Alaska-Fairbanks.

“Conference championships are always a match we look forward to,” said Head Coach Richard Clark. “It provides us with a unique opportunity to earn one of our qualifying scores over a two-day format as well as recognize the standout performers with finals each day. Coming off of a tough-fought battle last weekend, our team has come in focused and put in some great work this week. I’m excited to see them go out and compete with some of the best in the nation this weekend!”

NU finished fourth at last year’s PRC Championships, where Cecelia Ossi placed fifth in the smallbore. She took seventh place overall with a score of 1,183.

During the 2024-25 regular season, the Big Red set numerous team and individual records. Nebraska shot a school-record 4,731 aggregate score against Army, UAB, and Mt. Aloysius on Jan. 25. The Huskers also set a school record in the smallbore with their score of 2,354 the same day.

Junior Emma Rhode had a standout regular season, earning the highest individual aggregate score in school history with a mark of 1,193, as well as tying her own program-high score of 598 in the air rifle. Freshman Maddy Moyer also shot the highest single-game smallbore score for a freshman, shooting a 591 against UTEP on Nov. 10.

Nebraska (11-6) enters the PRC Championships coming off of a 4,689-4,694 loss at the hands of No. 16 UTEP on Feb. 1.

Following the PRC Championships, NU will travel to Columbus, Ohio, on Feb. 22 to take on No. 12 Ohio State in an NCAA-qualifier match. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m. (central).
