South Dakota (3-2, 0-0 Summit)
History: NU leads, 9-0
The Coyotes enter Saturday’s match at 3-2, posting wins against Missouri State, Sioux Falls, and Utah State, with losses coming at the hands of Missouri and Montana State. Junior Selena Bird was named the KwikStar Summit League Women's Tennis Singles Peak Performer of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 6. No Coyotes are ranked entering the dual, and their 3-2 season start matches the 2023-24 season. Last year South Dakota finished 12-10.
The Huskers are coming off the fall individual season in which the team tallied 34 singles wins. Sophomore Maria Taranova led the Big Red in fall singles wins with seven, and had a stellar freshman season in which she earned a 23-8 record, the most wins by a freshman since 2010.
In the 2023-24 season, led by head coach German Dalmagro in his first year at NU, the Huskers went 14-11. The team accomplished two Big Ten Tournament wins for the first time in program history and senior Raphaelle Lacasse was named an All-Big Ten First Team honoree.
Husker senior Ana Zamburek was named to the Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch list on Jan. 6, and looks to finish her collegiate career strong after reaching a program high ITA doubles ranking of No. 25 last season.
