McQuillen, Wicker Earn Event Titles on Friday at the Frank Sevigne

Brynna McQuillen and Dyson Wicker set the second-best marks in school history and won their respective event titles, as the Nebraska track and field team wrapped up day one at the Frank Sevigne Invitational on Friday. 

Freshman Wicker improved his No. 2 mark in school history, as he cleared a new personal-best 5.55m (18-2 ½) to get the event win. Wicker’s mark is No. 9 in the NCAA and his third title of the season. 

In the women’s 5000m, McQuillen ran an indoor PR 16:18.94 for the second-fastest time in school history and the first-place finish. Taya Skelton finished second with a personal-best of her own, 16:52.50. 

In the pentathlon, Lishanna Ilves won the long jump, helping her earn a second-place finish with 3779 points. Favour Wanjoku (3716), Grace Parsons (3693), and Rebecca Pecora (3623) finished second through fourth, respectively. 

Kellyn Kortemeyer (19.60m, 64-3 ¾) and Hillevi Carlson (19.59m, 64-3 ¼) set personal bests in the women’s weight throw to grab third and fourth-place finishes. Cammy Garabian (19.40m, 63-7 ¾) and Ariel Ammentorp (18.53m, 60-9 ½) earned fifth and eighth. In the men’s weight throw, Seth Schnakenberg (19.27m, 63-2 ¾) finished fourth, Brett Schwartz (18.91m, 62-00 ½) got fifth and Max Herman (18.73m, 61-5) was sixth. 

After the first day of the heptathlon and four events, Adria Navajon led the group of three Huskers with 3002 points in sixth, Luke Noland (2842) is in 10th and Brayden Bergkamp (2822) sits in 11th. 

In the prelims of the 60m hurdles, Raiko Kahr ran a personal-best 8.22 to qualify sixth for tomorrow afternoon’s finals. 

Competition at the Frank Sevigne Invitational continues tomorrow with the heptathlon beginning at 10 a.m., the running events at 11 a.m., and the field events at 12 p.m.
