Six Huskers won their respective events on Friday and Saturday, as the Nebraska track and field team wrapped up competition at the Frank Sevigne Invitational.
Mason Kooi tied the number two mark in the country, clearing 2.23m (7-3 ¾) to claim the high jump title. Tyus Wilson came in second, clearing 2.20m (7-2 ½). Wilson and Kooi now hold the top two marks in the country. Reid Nelson (2.17m, 7-1 ½) finished fourth, Ashriel Dixon (2.00m, 6-6 ¾) fifth, Desire Tonye Nyemeck (2.00m, 6-6 ¾) sixth and Gerrit Twitero (1.95m, 6-4 ¾) was seventh.
In the women’s shot put, Kalynn Meyer won the event title, setting the ninth-best mark in the country at 17.57m (57-7 ¾) and fifth-farthest in school history. Mine De Klerk (16.87m, 55-4 ¼) finished second, Amelia Flynt (15.96m, 52-4 ½) fourth, Kellyn Kortemeyer (15.49m, 50-10) fifth, Sage Burbach (14.93m, 48-11 ¾) sixth, and Lauren St. Peters (14.69m, 48-2 ½) seventh.
Jenna Rogers claimed the event title in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.86m (6-1 ¼). Brooklyn Miller and Ela Velepec finished tied for second with marks of 1.75m (5-8 ¾).
In the women’s triple jump, Lotavia Brown jumped 12.38m (40-7 ½) to earn the victory. On the men’s side, Balvin Israel finished fourth, jumping 14.18m (46-6 ¼).
In the men’s shot put, Kael Miedema threw a personal best 18.46m (60-6 ¾), placing second and Cade Moran added a fourth-place finish with a mark of 17.95m (58-10 ¾).
Tyrell Pierce, Pradeep Senthilkumar, Niko Schultz and Logan Lebo earned a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay, running 3:13.12. On the women’s side, Kelsie Belquist, Arianna Walker, Luciana Medina and Abrielle Artley finished in fourth, running 3:46.16.
In the men’s 800m, Niko Schultz ran 1:49.27, earning second. Kaleb Sharp (fourth; 1:50.46), Holden Ruse (fifth; 1:51.29), and Jack Witte (eighth; 1:52.10) all ran personal bests. On the women’s side, Luciana Medina crossed the line in 2:14.43 to finish fourth, and Deavion Deleon placed seventh, running 2:15.46.
Grant Wasserman ran a personal best 8:18.83 in the men’s 3000m, coming in second. In the men’s 600m, Sam Easley finished third, running 1:19.19; Logan Lebo (1:19.83) and William McDavid (1:20.13) earned fifth and sixth.
Riley Boonstra (4:16.41) and Alea Hardie (4:57.79) ran personal bests in the mile race, finishing sixth on both the men’s and women’s sides.
Adria Navajon finished fifth in the heptathlon with a score of 5391. Luke Noland (4984) and Brayden Bergkamp (4974) finished 10th and 11th. Till Steinforth won the heptathlon, competing unattached, setting a new facility and meet record with 6255 points.
At the conclusion of the event, Kooi and Meyer were named the Frank Sevigne Athletes of the Meet.
Up next, the Huskers hit the road for the Tyson Invitational, Feb. 14-15, in Fayetteville, Ark.
