Lincoln, Neb. - Yanni Chronopoulos was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and Taylor Christopulos earned Big Ten Specialist of the Week honors after their stellar performances during Nebraska’s upset victory over No. 3 Ohio State this past Saturday.
Chronopoulos surpassed his career highs on every event he competed in including hitting a 13.90 on pommel horse and in his season debut on high bar, notching a 13.35. The Canadian also won his first two event titles of his collegiate career with a 14.25 on still rings, which he tied with fellow Husker Chris Hiser for the title, and a 13.85 on parallel bars. The parallel bars title is Nebraska’s fourth-consecutive title on p-bars this season.
Christopulos earned his Specialist of the Week honors after winning the title on pommel horse. The Graduate also helped secure the upset against Ohio State with his high bar performance of 13.80, earning him second place on the event. The native of Utah also made his season debut on floor putting up a 13.50 and on vault, notching a 14.15.
The Huskers moved up to fourth place in this week’s Road to Nationals rankings after the upset.
Nebraska also recorded the highest team score of the weekend, 325.650. The Huskers are back in action at Penn State on Sunday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. (CT) and will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network.
