Junior Emma Rhode and freshman Maddy Moyer will head to Lexington, Ky., this week to represent the Nebraska rifle program at the 2025 NCAA Rifle Championships.
Rhode and Moyer will compete as individuals in the smallbore event on Friday, March 14. They will both participate in the second relay from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (CT). Moyer also competes in the air rifle event on Saturday, March 15, and will shoot in the second relay from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Rhode is listed as an alternate for the air rifle competition.
They will join Erin Schnupp (Akron), Marleigh Duncan (Navy), Gabriella Sprague (Ohio State), Carlee Valenta (UTEP), Hayden Bell (Morehead State), and Addison Antiwiler (Army) as the individuals selected for the competition. The individuals competing were not part of the eight teams selected for the championships.
Both Rhode and Moyer look to finish off a season full of record and personal bests for the Big Red. This will be Rhode’s third NCAA appearance, previously competing as a team with NU in 2023 and 2024.
Rhode led the team in average scores in both disciplines, averaging a 591.39 in the smallbore, 595.08 in the air rifle for an aggregate average of 1186.46. She shot a season high of 596 in the smallbore twice this season, on Nov. 16 at Ohio State and Jan. 25 at Army. Rhode also shot the highest aggregate score in program history with a mark of 1,193 on Jan. 18 at the Roger Withrow Invitational.
Moyer posted season averages of 584.69 in the smallbore and 589.77 in the air rifle. She tied the second-highest air rifle score in program history on two occasions, posting a score of 597 against TCU on Nov. 2 and at the NCAA Qualifiers on Feb. 22. Moyer won two events at the NCAA Qualifiers, claiming first in the aggregate and in the air rifle, making her first event titles of the season.
