Junior Emma Rhode and freshman Maddy Moyer competed in the individual smallbore competition at the 2025 NCAA Rifle Championships on Friday in Lexington, Ky. Rhode shot a score of 586, while Moyer shot a mark of 576 on the first day of competition.
“I am very proud of both Emma and Maddy for how they handled themselves today,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “Emma had a good match to cap off her junior year and saw some great things to carry with her into this off season. While the number wasn’t what she wanted, Maddy did a very good job working through the nerves of the big stage for her first time. Luckily Maddy gets the ability to take what she learned from today with her into tomorrow's air gun competition and have a good performance.”
The championship slate on day one featured two relays with a total of 44 competitors. Both Rhode and Moyer competed in the second relay of the day.
Moyer will compete in the air rifle tomorrow, and both athletes’ placements will be final after both the smallbore and air rifle are finished.
Rhode closes out her junior year with a list of top finishes and personal records. She placed in 12 of 13 matches, featuring nine first-place and three second-place finishes in the smallbore. Rhode set program records in smallbore (598) and in aggregate score (1,193).
Moyer will compete in tomorrow’s air rifle competition on day two of the 2025 NCAA Championships. Rhode is listed as an alternate for the event.
