Huskers Fall at #38 Wildcats

On the road for the first time in over a month, the Nebraska women’s team battled and came up short seeking its first conference win at #38 Northwestern. The Huskers (10-4, 0-3 Big Ten) took one doubles match, but could not beat the Wildcats (9-6, 2-1 Big Ten) to any singles points, falling 4-0 on Friday night.

The Big Ten matchup began with doubles, which came down to Court Two for the point. At No. 3 doubles, Natalia Trigosso and Reya Lee Coe fell to Rabjohns/Lau, 6-1. Court One’s Ana Zamburek and Lucy Loy claimed a 6-4 win over Jessel/Fruchtman, the duo’s sixth of the season. No. 2 doubles went to a tie-break, where Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini fell 7-5 to Pratt/Feldman.

Down one, the Huskers took on singles competition. Court Four finished early, as Rossini had to forfeit by retirement up against Pratt. At No. 2 singles, Rizzetto battled facing Lau, but lost 6-1, 6-2. Wildcat Feldman clinched the match on Court Five, defeating Coe 6-0, 6-4.

Courts one, three and six were left unfinished. Zamburek’s match was split at one-set all up against Jessel, while Taranova and Loy each led one-set to none. With the loss, the Wildcats continue to dominate the programs’ head-to-head, now leading 12-2.

NU will return to action on Sunday, March 16 in Champaign, Ill., at the Atkins Tennis Center to face No. 46 Illinois at noon (CT). The dual will have live stats and stream.
