The No. 39 Nebraska men’s tennis team hits the road for two more conference matchups this week as the Huskers travel to No. 69 Penn State and No. 3 Ohio State. The Huskers (9-5, 2-2 B1G) will face the Nittany Lions on Friday at 4 p.m. (CT) before meeting the Buckeyes (14-2, 3-0 B1G) on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
The Huskers are coming off a 1-1 home weekend as they upset No. 17 Michigan 5-2, but dropped a 4-0 match to No. 36 Michigan State. Against the Wolverines, the Huskers combined for five singles victories, including an upset win by Calvin Mueller on Court One.
The No. 39 Huskers have three athletes in the rankings. Senior Mueller is currently ranked No. 73 in the ITA National Rankings, while doubles duo Lars Johann and Anton Shepp hold the No. 29 doubles spot.
NU looks to improve on its 2023-24 spring season finish of 17-10. The team reached the Big Ten Tournament semifinals for the first time in program history, and concluded with the most dual wins in a season since 1990. The Big Red finished with a national ranking of No. 49, and Mueller being named First Team All-Big Ten.
No. 69 Penn State 11-5, 0-3 B1G
History: Penn State leads the all-time series, 7-6, but the Huskers have won the last four matches between the teams. Last season, Nebraska topped PSU at home on senior day, 7-0.
No. 3 Ohio State 14-2, 3-0 B1G
History: Ohio State has won every dual against the Huskers, leading 16-0. The Huskers did battle against the Buckeyes last season, earning a point in the meeting in Lincoln and in the Big Ten Tournament.
Ranked Buckeyes in singles include No. 13 Aidan Kim, No. 52 Alexander Bernard and No. 77 Jack Anthrop. OSU has one ranked doubles pair in No. 41 Nakashima/Jansen. The Buckeyes are currently on a seven-match win streak with notable victories over ranked Columbia, Michigan and Illinois.
