Gena Jorgenson opened Nebraska's NCAA Championships competition on Thursday, March 20 by notching a 22nd-place finish in the 500 freestyle at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Wash.
Jorgenson, a junior from Aberdeen, S.D., improved 12 spots from her seed place (34th), while just missing her own school-record time of 4:39.31 by posting a 4:39.33.
Jorgenson will be back in action Friday when she competes in the 400 individual medley at noon (CT).
Abby Baxter, the sophomore from Coppell, Tex., will make her first NCAA Championship appearance in the diving well. She will be competing in the three-meter diving trials at 2:15 p.m. (CT).
