Three Huskers Collect All-Region Awards

The Nebraska track and field program earned three USTFCCCA Midwest Region awards on Thursday. Dusty Jonas was named the men’s assistant coach of the year, while Axelina Johansson and Tyus Wilson were both awarded the field athlete of the year honor.

Award winners were determined by a vote of USTFCCCA member coaches following the conclusion of the 2025 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships. Performances from both the NCAA Championships and the regular season were considered. Only those individuals from USTFCCCA member programs are eligible for awards.

Jonas, in his seventh year as assistant coach at Nebraska and 15th on staff, coached two Huskers to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the high jump, led by national champion Wilson. His athletes won two events at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, with Wilson claiming the high jump and Adria Navajon taking the heptathlon.

Wilson, the native of Sterling, Kan., won the high jump title in PR 2.28m (7-5 ¾) at the 2025 NCAA DI Indoor Championships. That was Wilson’s sixth event crown of the season, having also topped the podium at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and Graduate Classic, among others. He was also named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships.

Sweden’s Johansson won the NCAA shot put title, throwing 19.28m (63-3 ¼). The school-record holder earned her sixth all-american honor and finished the indoor season with five event titles.

This is the third-straight year a Husker athlete has brought in an indoor postseason regional honor. Jonah Wilson became the first athlete to earn the award for NU two seasons ago.
