Big Red Fall to No. 5 Michigan

Lincoln, Neb. - Despite individual titles by Asher Cohen and Chase Mondi, the No. 3 Nebraska men’s gymnastics team was edged out by the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines on senior night with a score of 335.200-335.950. 

Floor
Taylor Christopulos stuck the landing for a career-high of 14.75 for second place. Mondi tied with Wolverine Fred Richard with a 14.40 for fourth. Luke James put up a career-high of 13.95 for seventh, and Nathan York stuck for 13.60 for eighth. Michigan’s Charlie Larson took the title with a 14.85, and Michigan took the floor event with a 57.95-56.70.

 

Pommel Horse
Yanni Chronopoulos nabbed second place, scoring 14.10. York continued his success, putting up a 13.90 for the third spot. Christopulos tied with Paul Juda for a 13.60, earning fourth place. Senior Travis Wong had a 12.85 for seventh. Michigan’s Aaronson Manberger took the event title, scoring a 14.45. Nebraska grabbed its first event on the pommel horse with a team score of 54.450-53.75. 

 

Rings
Cohen hit his third-straight career high of 14.45, good for the individual title. Chris Hiser earned a 14.35 with a stick. Chronopoulos came up with a 14.00, taking the fourth spot. In fifth place, James Friedman matched his career high of 13.85 on the event. Big Red took the event 56.65-55.80.

 

Vault
Mondi takes his second straight title with a massive 14.65, propelling the Huskers past the Wolverines on vault 42.550-42.250. Christopulos hit his second straight career high of 14.30 with a stick on his vault, tying with Fred Richard. York earned another third-place spot with a 14.25. James earned a 14.00, putting him in fourth place. 

 

Parallel Bars
Cole Partridge stepped up big for the Huskers with a career-high of 14.00, taking second. Joey Pepe took the third spot, who had a big routine for Big Red with a 13.90, just .05 shy of his career high of 13.95. For the seventh spot, Christopulos had a 13.70. Chronopoulos finished eighth with 13.00. Michigan’s Richard had a stellar routine with a 14.95 for first place, as the Wolverines led 280.400-279.600 heading into the final event. 

 

High Bar
Partridge excelled on the high bar with another career-high of 14.20. Max Odden matched his career high of 14.10 for second place. Christopulos hit a 13.95 for fourth place. In eighth place, Yanni Chronopoulos put up at 13.35. Fred Richard clinched the individual title and the Wolverines got their share of the Big Ten Regular Season Title.
