Despite a ranked win for senior Ana Zamburek at No. 1 singles, the #62 Nebraska women’s tennis team fell 4-1 at #29 Iowa on Saturday afternoon. After dropping the doubles point and early sets in singles, NU battled but came up short in the Big Ten dual.
The match against Iowa began with doubles matches in Iowa City. Hawkeyes No. 76 Dejnozkova/Vishwase sealed a Hawkeye win on Court One, taking down seniors Zamburek and Lucy Loy. Emma Rizzetto and Reya Lee Coe battled at No. 2 doubles, but fell to Hayashida/Schmidt, 7-5. Court Three was left unfinished.
Singles action started with two Huskers taking their first sets. Courts five and six finished first, as Kranholdt defeated Loy, 6-4, 6-0, followed by Vishwase’s win over Miyoshi, 6-1, 6-4. With the Hawkeyes leading 3-0, the four remaining singles matches all pushed to third sets.
At No. 1 singles, Zamburek pulled off her second ranked win of the season, taking down #106 Dejnozkova, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. On Court Four, Coe battled, but fell to Pokorna 6-2, 2-6, 6-1, clinching the win for Iowa. No. 2 singles Taranova and Hayashida were left unfinished, as well as No. 3 Rizzetto and Schmidt.
With the loss, the #62 Huskers fell to 11-7 (1-6 Big Ten), while the #29 Hawkeyes improved to 11-5 (5-2 Big Ten). Iowa pulls ahead in the all-time series, 9-8 against the Big Red, also notching head coach Sasha Boros’ 100th win with the team. The Hawkeyes are now 9-1 this spring when they’ve claimed the doubles point.

The Huskers continue road conference play next weekend, facing Rutgers and #74 Maryland. The Big Red takes on the Scarlet Knights on Friday, April 4, at noon (CT). On Sunday, April 6, NU meets the Terrapins at 11 a.m. (CT).
