Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Nebraska bowling team will travel this week to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, competing at the Pittsburgh Regionals in the NCAA Women’s Bowling Tournament.
The Huskers come off a regular season which saw the Big Red end as the No. 1 team in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll, ending with a 91-23 record. The Big Red finished with three tournament victories and six different individuals making all-tournament teams during the season.
Nebraska enters its 22nd straight NCAA Tournament as the second seed in the tournament. Last year, the Huskers’ season ended at the Lansing Regionals in a loss to Youngstown State. The teams joining the Big Red this year are Arkansas State, Marville, Kutztown and Fayetteville State. Competition for the Big Red will take place on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5.
The first ball will be thrown Thursday morning at 9 a.m. (CT) with a mega-match between Kutztown and Fayetteville State, with the winner moving on to play Nebraska. The tournament continues with two mega-matches Friday morning, beginning at 8:00 a.m. (CT), the second beginning at 1:30 p.m. (CT). Competition will conclude on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. (CT) with an additional mega-match before the regional championship at 1:30 p.m. (CT).
The NCAA regionals will use the Mega Match format which includes a five-game total-pinfall baker match and a traditional team match. The first team to collect two games wins the match, and in the event of a 1-1 tie, a best-of-seven baker match will be used to determine a mega-match winner.
The NCAA regionals will feature a double-elimination format with one winner from each of the four regionals advancing to the NCAA Championship in Las Vegas, Nev., on April 11-12 at Suncoast Bowling Center.
