Six Huskers will compete in the NCAA Zone D Championships in Iowa City, Iowa beginning Monday. Abby Baxter, Kelsey Clairmont, Antonina Harned, Nettie Knapton, Jordyn Schmucker and Frankie Webb are set to compete after posting zone-qualifying scores throughout the season.
Baxter logged 14 zone-qualifying performances between the one-and-three meter this season with a career best on the three-meter board at the Hawkeye Invitational (332.45). Baxter added two C-final finishes with points in the one-and-three meter at Big Ten Championships.
Clairmont qualified for platform at NCAA Zone D Championships last year where she finished competition with a score of 502.75, placing eighth. This season, she notched 12 top-five finishes while adding 14 zone-qualifying scores in all three diving events. Clairmont is set to compete on the three-meter board and platform.
Harned, a sophomore from Windermere, Fla., achieved career bests on the one-meter (310.05) and on platform (233.80) against Rutgers/Iowa this season. She added 11 zone-qualifying scores and nine top-five finishes between all three diving events for the Huskers.
Knapton posted six zone-qualifying scores between the three-meter and platform dives this season. Between the two events, she harnessed five top-five finishes for the Huskers. The junior from Omaha, Neb., set a career best against Illinois scoring 296.33 on the three-meter dive. She also captured a career best in platform diving in the Hawkeye Invitational prelims with 238.00 points.
Schmucker qualified in the one-meter diving with her score from the Hawkeye Invitational in late November. She was able to capture 268.30 points along with a career high in the event.
Frankie Webb, a junior from England, punched her ticket to Zones with a 290.50 and 282.45 in the three-meter diving event. She also made the cut for the platform dive against Rutgers/Iowa scoring 225.30 points.
Divers qualify for NCAA championships by performances achieved in Zone Championships, March 10-12. In Zone D, the top 11 divers in the one-meter and top-nine divers in the three-meter and platform punch their tickets to NCAA championships. Selected divers will be announced March 13.
