Beatrix Tanko enjoyed a strong second day at the Hungarian National Swimming Championships by racing to a lifetime best time on her way to a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle on Thursday, April 10.
Tanko's runner-up time of 25.58 in Thursday's final was 0.31 seconds behind 31-year-old gold medalist Petra Senanszky (25.27), who also took gold in the 50-meter free in last summer's European Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
It was Tanko's second top-eight finish in as many days at the Hungarian Championships. The Husker sophomore from Budapest, Hungary, opened her national meet with an eighth-place finish (57.20) in the 100 freestyle final on Wednesday, after racing to a time of 56.94 in prelims earlier in the day.
Tanko will have a busy day on Friday, competing in both the 50-meter butterfly and 200 freestyle, before concluding the competition with the 100 butterfly on Saturday.
