With only three matches remaining in the regular season, the Nebraska men’s tennis team is on the road this weekend, to take on No. 56 Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. The Big Ten dual is slated for noon (CT) on April 12, in Madison, Wis., at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. The No. 38 Huskers (13-7, 6-4 Big Ten) look to improve on their record-tying six conference victories.
The Badgers (9-9, 3-7 Big Ten) are coming off two road losses on the west coast last weekend, falling 4-2 at No. 62 Oregon and 4-1 at No. 43 Washington.
NU has three Huskers in the rankings as of April 8. Senior Calvin Mueller is currently ranked No. 64 in the ITA National Rankings, while doubles duo Lars Johann and Anton Shepp hold the No. 54 doubles spot. The top-40 Big Red standing is the best since 2012-13 when the team reached No. 33.
#56 Wisconsin (9-9, 3-7 Big Ten)
History: 13-9 WIS; Since their first matchup in 1983, the Badgers have taken 13 all-time wins against NU. Wisconsin is 8-1 in matches played in Madison. Most recently, the Huskers defeated the Badgers 6-1 in Lincoln.
Freshman Sachiv Kumar is coming off a dominant weekend despite the team losses, after taking two straight-set singles wins. There are no Badgers currently ranked, as the young roster has only one upperclassman.
