After a single-match weekend, the Nebraska women’s tennis team is set to hit the road for duals against Rutgers and Maryland.
The No. 65 Huskers (11-7,1-6 Big Ten) face Rutgers (7-9,1-7 Big Ten) first on Friday, April 4 at 11 a.m. (CT). The Big Ten action will continue on Sunday, April 6 at 11 a.m. (CT) against No. 74 Maryland (11-9, 4-4 Big Ten). Nebraska is coming off a 0-1 weekend, falling to No. 29 Hawkeyes on Saturday.
The Scarlet Knights come into the match with a 1-7 Big Ten record, most recently losing to Wisconsin 4-0. The Terrapins come into the match ranked No. 74 with a 4-4 Big Ten record, most recently defeating Minnesota 4-0. Husker sophomore Maria Taranova leads the Big Red in spring singles wins, with a 12-1 record. Senior Ana Zamburek follows shortly behind with a 11-3 singles record this spring.
Nearing the end of conference play, the Huskers are looking to improve on their 2023-2024 spring season finish of 14-11 (3-8 Big Ten). In German Dalmagro’s first season, he led the team to two Big Ten tournament wins for the first time in program history, as well as its first ITA Regional Semifinals appearance since 2006.
Rutgers (7-9, 1-7 Big Ten)
History: Nebraska leads the all-time series, 6-1.
This will be the first time the Huskers met Rutgers since the 2022-23 season, where the Big Red defeated the Scarlet Knights 4-0. Rutgers, who is currently on a seven-match losing streak, has no ranked singles or doubles teams, but Zuzanna Frankowska currently leads the way with 16 singles victories.
#74 Maryland (11-9, 4-4 Big Ten)
History: Nebraska leads the all-time series, 4-3.
Maryland defeated the Huskers in the regular season last year, but Nebraska tallied a post-season win against the Terrapins 4-2 to advance to the Big Ten Quarterfinals. Maryland has no ranked singles or doubles teams, but Kallista Liu leads the team with 10 singles wins and the duo of Kallista Liu/Danielle Hack are on a three-win streak.
