Huskers Hit the Road for Matches at No. 8 Penn State, No. 22 Ohio State

The Nebraska soccer team (5-0-3, 0-0-1 Big Ten) will go on the road for two matches this weekend. The Huskers will face off against No. 8 Penn State (5-2-1, 1-0-0 Big Ten) in University Park, Pa., on Thursday, Sept. 18 and will take on No. 22 Ohio State (4-1-2, 0-0-1) in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday, Sept. 21. Thursday’s game is set for 5 p.m. (CT) and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Sunday’s match will kick off at 11 a.m. (CT) and be streamed on B1G+. 

Last Time Out
NU grabbed a 2-2 draw against Minnesota on Thursday, Sept. 11, after netting two goals in the final seven minutes of the game. The Huskers were down 2-0 until Reagan Raabe and Ella Rudney scored goals within four minutes of each other to preserve the Big Red’s undefeated season. Reese Borer had two assists and Rudney and Sadie Waite had one. 

Next Up
The Huskers will host Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 25 and Iowa on Sunday, Sept. 28. The game against the Wolverines is set to start at 7:05 p.m. (CT) and the contest against the Hawkeyes will kick off at 1:05 p.m. (CT).   • Eight returning Huskers have already notched new career highs in at least one category – Cece Villa (consecutive scoreless minutes), Ava Makovicka (points, goals, assists), Reagan Raabe (assists), Reese Borer (points, goals, assists), Sadie Waite (assists), Maddy Osborn (saves), Ella Rudney (points, goals, assists) and Kayma Carpenter (points, goals, assists). 
  • Carpenter ranks first in the Big Ten and eighth nationally with three game-winning goals. She is third in the conference in points (12) and goals (5). 
  • As a team, NU ranks ninth nationally and first in the Big Ten in total assists (25) and 10th nationally and first in the Big Ten in assists per game (3.13). 
  • The Big Red is undefeated through eight games in 2025, including its whole non-conference slate. The last time NU went undefeated in non-conference play was 2000. The 2023 Huskers, who made the NCAA Elite Eight and won a Big Ten Championship, were also undefeated through eight games.
  • NU has 11 regular-season home games scheduled for its 11th season at Hibner Stadium in 2025, which includes five non-conference matches and six Big Ten contests. Additionally, the Big Red hosted one exhibition.
  • The Huskers’ Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch included Reagan Raabe, Lauryn Anglim and Sadie Waite. Nebraska was tabbed No. 12 in the preseason poll. 
  • NU returned 10 letterwinners from last season, along with sixth-year Raabe. She was injured in both 2023 and 2024, but was a third-team All-Big Ten honoree in 2021 and 2022. Raabe scored the Huskers’ lone goal of their exhibition matches, her first net since Sept. 11, 2022. 
  • The Huskers welcomed 15 newcomers in 2025, including 13 freshmen and two transfers. Alyse Then previously competed at Daytona State and SUNY, while Jo Sees comes to the Big Red from Kansas State. 
  • During the 2024 season, the Huskers averaged 1,437 fans per game at Hibner Stadium, second most in Husker history and 11th in the nation. NU added a total attendance of 12,933, which ranked 18th nationally.
  • Head Coach John Walker enters his 32nd season, alongside assistant coaches Savanah Anderson-Baer (third season), Ian Bridge (10th season) and Dan Ball (first season). Walker has a 376-203-65 record in his career and has coached all 31 seasons in Nebraska soccer history.

Scouting the No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions

  • Penn State is 5-2-1 in 2025 and is ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Association Poll. The Nittany Lions opened Big Ten play with a 4-0 win over Maryland. Their losses have come to No. 1 Virginia and No. 3 Duke, while their one tie came against James Madison.
  • Aubrey Kulpa is responsible for 18 points and seven goals for Penn State. She also adds four assists. Julia Raich and Kaitlyn MacBean have each contributed three goals and Riley Gleason has notched six assists.
  • Mackenzie Gress has started all eight games in goal for the Nittany Lions and allows less than one goal per game while adding 18 saves.
  • Penn State has taken only 95 shots to its opponents’ 100, but the Nittany Lions have outdone their opponents in shots on goal, 42-30.
  • Head coach Erica Dambach is in her 19th season at Penn State and has a 294-101-33 record with the Nittany Lions. She is 334-129-36 in her career.
  • The Huskers are 3-8-2 all-time against PSU. The two teams met last season, when Penn State grabbed a 1-0 victory.

Scouting the No. 22 Ohio State Buckeyes

  • Ohio State is 4-1-2 in 2025 and is ranked No. 22 in the United Soccer Coaches Association Poll. The Buckeyes tied with Michigan, 0-0, to open up Big Ten conference competition.
  • Amanda Schlueter has notched five goals and two assists for OSU. Jadin Bonham adds two assists.
  • Molly Pritchard has started all seven games in goal for the Buckeyes and allows only 0.45 goals per game. She has logged 14 saves this season.
  • Ohio State has taken 108 shots, including 39 on goal, to its opponents’ 73 (17 on goal). 
  • Head coach Lori Walker-Hock is in her 29th season with the Buckeyes and has amassed a 309-209-64 record at OSU. She is 322-232-65 in her career. 
  • The Huskers are 7-4-3 all-time against Ohio State. The two teams met twice in 2023 and Nebraska won both of those matchups.
