Huskers Complete Rain-Shortened OU Intercollegiate

The young Husker women's golf team struggled in challenging playing conditions, finishing 12th at the 14-team OU Intercollegiate Presented by DPI at Prairie Dunes Golf Club in Hutchinson, Kan., Tuesday.

Hannah Kono led Nebraska with a 151 (+11) over two rounds at the tournament, which was shortened to just two rounds after the teams battled rain and wind throughout Monday. The teams were scheduled to play 36 holes on the opening day of the event, but were unable to complete the first round. Conditions improved Tuesday, but scoring was a challenge on the 6,005-yard, par-70 layout at Prairie Dunes.

Kono tied for 34th to lead the five-player Husker lineup, while redshirt junior Lauren Thiele finished 47th at 155 (+15). Thiele led the Huskers with a 74 (+4) in the opening round before settling for an 81 Tuesday.

True freshman Ailis Tribolet and sophomore Olivia Lovegrove tied for 58th overall at 158 (+18) over two rounds. Both golfers put together rounds of 78 (+8) on Tuesday.

Sophomore Jessica Jolly rounded out the Nebraska contingent at 167 (+27) over 36 holes. Jolly shot an opening-round 78 (+8).

Florida's Megan Propeck took home individual medalist honors as the only golfer in the 78-player field to break over two rounds. Propeck posted a 67 (-3) in the second round after opening with a 72 (+2) to finish at 139 (-1). She won the tournament by four strokes over Baylor's Yurang Li (71-72) and Eastern Michigan's Baiyok Sukterm (71-72) who shot identical scores of 143 (+3). Eight golfers finish in a tie for fourth at 144 (+4).

As a team, Nebraska finished at 620 (+60). Florida won the team title at 573 (+13), while Kansas State and Eastern Michigan tied for second at 580 (+20). Baylor (584), Oklahoma State (586) and the hosts from Oklahoma (594) rounded out the top six teams in the field.

Nebraska returns to action in three weeks to close the fall portion of its schedule at the Clash at Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nev., Oct. 27-28.
