Huskers Look to Bounce Back Against Purdue, Maryland

The Nebraska soccer team (5-3-5, 0-3-3 Big Ten) returns home to take on the Purdue Boilermakers and Maryland Terrapins at Barbara Hibner Stadium. The Huskers’ match against Purdue on Thursday, Oct. 9 is set to start at 7:05 p.m. (CT) and NU’s game against Maryland on Sunday, Oct. 12 will kick off at 1:05 p.m. (CT). Both games will be streamed on B1G+ and fans can purchase tickets at huskers.com/tickets.

Last Time Out
The Big Red took its third straight loss at Northwestern on Sunday, falling 3-0 to the Wildcats. The Huskers took just two shots on goal and eight total while allowing eight shots on goal for Northwestern and 13 total.

Next Up
Nebraska will take on USC in Los Angeles, Calif., on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game is set to start at 9 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+.

  • Nine returning Huskers have notched new career highs in at least one category – Cece Villa (consecutive scoreless minutes), Ava Makovicka (points, goals, assists), Reagan Raabe (assists), Reese Borer (points, goals, assists), Sadie Waite (assists), Lauryn Anglim (goals) Maddy Osborn (saves), Ella Rudney (points, goals, assists) and Kayma Carpenter (points, goals, assists). 
  • Carpenter ranks first in the Big Ten with three game-winning goals. She is fifth in the conference in goals (5) and sixth in points (12). As a team, NU ranks second in the Big Ten in total assists (27).
  • The Big Red went undefeated through 10 games in 2025, including its whole non-conference slate. The last time NU went undefeated in non-conference play was 2000. The 2023 Huskers, who made the NCAA Elite Eight and won a Big Ten Championship, went undefeated through eight games.
  • NU has 11 regular-season home games scheduled for its 11th season at Hibner Stadium in 2025, which includes five non-conference matches and six Big Ten contests. Additionally, the Big Red hosted one exhibition.

  • NU returned 10 letterwinners from last season, along with sixth-year Raabe. She was injured in both 2023 and 2024, but was a third-team All-Big Ten honoree in 2021 and 2022. Raabe scored the Huskers’ lone goal of their exhibition matches, her first net since Sept. 11, 2022. 
  • The Huskers welcomed 15 newcomers in 2025, including 13 freshmen and two transfers. Alyse Then previously competed at Daytona State and SUNY, while Jo Sees comes to the Big Red from Kansas State. 
  • During the 2024 season, the Huskers averaged 1,437 fans per game at Hibner Stadium, second most in Husker history and 11th in the nation. NU added a total attendance of 12,933, which ranked 18th nationally.
  • Head Coach John Walker enters his 32nd season, alongside assistant coaches Savanah Anderson-Baer (third season), Ian Bridge (10th season) and Dan Ball (first season). Walker has a 376-205-67 record in his career and has coached all 31 seasons in Nebraska soccer history. Coach Walker is one of nine active head coaches in the NCAA to be head coach for the whole duration of a program.

Scouting the Purdue Boilermakers

  • Purdue is 5-6-3 on the season with a 2-3-1 mark in Big Ten competition. The Huskers and Boilermakers share a common opponent in Iowa. Both teams lost to the No. 7 Hawkeyes. Purdue is at No. 11 in the Big Ten standings.
  • Irene Campo and Chiara Singarella both have six goals for the Boilermakers, while Emilia Deppe and Allyssa Turner each add four assists.
  • Emily Edwards has started every game in goal and totals 44 saves on the season while allowing 1.09 goals per game.
  • Head coach Richard Moodie is in his second season at Purdue and is 12-15-5 with the Boilermakers. He owns a record of 151-90-31 in his career as a women’s soccer coach.
  • The Huskers are 9-5-1 all-time against Purdue. The two teams last met in 2023, when NU grabbed a 2-0 shutout victory.

Scouting the Maryland Terrapins

  • Maryland is 6-7-0 on the season with a 2-4-0 mark in conference play. The Terrapins are No. 13 in the Big Ten standings. Maryland and Nebraska share an opponent in Penn State – NU tied with the Nittany Lions and the Terrapins lost, 4-0. 
  • Ava Morales and Kelsey Smith each have posted four goals and two assists to total 10 points each for Maryland.
  • Faith Luckey has started every game in goal for the Terrapins. She has 57 saves this season and allows 1.47 goals per game.
  • Head coach Michael Marchiano is in his second season with the Terrapins and has a 7-10-1 record both at Maryland and in his career as a women’s soccer coach.
  • NU owns a 6-1-1 advantage in the all-time series against Maryland. The Terrapins won the last matchup, 2-0, last season.
