Huskers Close Fall at Colonial Classic
Harahan, La. - The second-ranked Nebraska bowling team is once more on the road, embarking for the Bayou State to participate in the Colonial Classic hosted by No. 19 Tulane from Nov. 21-23 at Colonial Lanes in Harahan, La.
The Huskers are looking to wrap up the Fall portion of the season on a high note as they come off a seventh-place finish in the Bulldog Classic where they went 8-5 with a pinfall of 10,196 and a pinfall average of 203.9. The Conference USA October Player of the Month and team captain Jillian Martin, who threw for a 1,027 pinfall and 205.4 average in the Bulldog Classic, finishing in a season-lowest 20th place after posting back-to-back fourth place finishes in the two tournaments prior, will not be traveling with the team as she travels to Hong Kong alongside assistant coach Julia Bond to compete for Team USA in the IBF Bowling World Championships. Traveling with the Huskers for the first time this season will be redshirt junior Kathryn Bowman, redshirt sophomore Ashtyn Yoches, and true freshman Sami Kanehailua, who will each look to make an impact in their first tournament of the season.
The Big Red will join a field of 16 total teams, including defending national champion and fourth-ranked Youngstown State as well as nine other top-25 programs. This will be the first tournament of the season where NU has not faced first-ranked Jacksonville State, who were winners of the past two tournaments that the Huskers had played in.
The first ball will be thrown on Nov. 21 at 9:45 a.m. CST, kicking off the first of five five-game Baker matches. Things pick back up the following day, Nov. 22, at 8:55 a.m. CST for five traditional matches. Results from the first two days will determine seeding for the bracket of three best four-of-seven Baker matches on Nov. 23, beginning at 8:30 a.m. CST.
