Big Red Wraps Up Day One of Double-Dual Action Against Illinois and Iowa

The first day of action wrapped up for the Big Red swimming and diving team in Champaign, Ill. and Iowa City, Iowa on Friday evening as Nebraska took on the Fighting Illini and Hawkeyes in a double-dual format. 

Swimming completed their events early in Champaign with a team of Virginia Consiglio, Amelia Riggott, Beatrix Tanko, and Giulia Marchi swimming in the 400 medley relay and finishing in fourth place. The experienced team swam the race in 3:49.50, led off by Consiglio and anchored by Marchi.

The 1,000 free was dominated by NU with two-time All-American Gena Jorgenson finishing in first-place with a season-best time of 9:55.77. Sophomore Riley Miklos followed in third with a time of 10:18.16 and Alaira Hadford in fourth, clocking a time of 10:21.31.

Tanko, the Hungarian swimmer, brought a second-place tie in the 100 IM with a time of 58.19. Marissa Laurin (10th, 59.86), Jenna Gogel (11th, 1:00.74) and Sophie Kissuk (12th, 1:01.58) harnessed additional places in the event.

To wrap up the meet, Nebraska posted a time of 3:26.96 in the 400 freestyle relay, earning a second-place finish. Marchi, Jorgenson, Miklos and Tanko combined efforts in the closing event.

In the diving well, Abby Baxter accumulated a pair of second-place finishes. On the one-meter board, she garnered a score of 296.95 and grabbed a 301.80 on the three-meter board. Kelsey Clairmont tied for fourth on the three-meter board with a score of 272.20. 

Action for the swimming team will resume at 10 a.m and 11 a.m. (CT) for the diving team tomorrow. MeetMobile and Hytek will have live results available for the swimming competition. Diving results will be updated on DiveMeets.
