NU Tops Illinois, Drops to Iowa

After a weekend of road competition, the Nebraska swimming and diving team downed the Fighting Illini 195-178 and fell to the Hawkeyes 216-156. 

Kelsey Clairmont highlighted the diving portion in Iowa City, City through her first-place platform performance. She accumulated 259.00 points to outscore the competition. Fellow senior Frankie Webb followed in fourth with a score of 225.65. 

Two-time first-team All-American Gena Jorgenson grabbed a pair of wins on the second day of swimming competition in Champaign, Ill. She swam to a 4:58.04 in the 500 free and a 2:02.84 in the 200 free to complete her trio of first-place showings from the weekend. She additionally swam in the 200 free, where she reached a second-place time of 1:51.22.

Beatrix Tanko brought a first-place victory in the 100 fly, where she touched the wall at 54.84, as well as a second-place finish in the 100 free (51.08). Aurora Zanin, the sophomore from Vittorio Veneto, Italy grabbed her sixth first-place finish of the season in the 200 fly with a 2:04.82. 

Virginia Consiglio added her best finish of the weekend in the 100 back with a third-place, 57.48 performance. Sophomore Jazmyn Lunn of Brookings, S.D., placed second in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:05.18. Freshman Sophie Kissuk added a duo of seventh-place finishes in the 100 back (58.56) and the 200 IM (2:09.46) on the second day of events. 

Adding impressive finishes herself, Riley Miklos added a third-place finish in the 200 free with a 1:51.72 and a 5:04.55, fourth place in the 500 free. 

With contributions from Tanko, Natalie Dunaway, Miklos, and Marchi, NU secured a second-place finish to conclude the double-dual in the 200 freestyle relay.  The team swam a 1:35.61, the third-best time this season. 

Nebraska will return to the Devaney Natatorium on Jan. 30-31 for a senior day spectacle against Rutgers, where the Big Red will wrap up the regular season.
