The Nebraska track and field team began competition at the Heartland Invitational, Tyson Invitational and Husky Classic on Friday.
The Huskers combined to win three titles on the day. Kellyn Kortemeyer (21.10m, 69-2 ¾) won the women’s weight throw with the second furthest mark in school history, Gabe Nash (1:47.43) ran the third fastest 800m in school history to win the event and Dyson Wicker (5.70m, 18-8 ¼) won the men’s pole vault title.
At the Heartland Invitational, Kortemeyer unleashed a 21.10m (69-2 ¾) throw in the women’s weight throw, earning the event title and moving into second in school history. Donna Douglas put up her best mark as a Husker, throwing 20.31m (66-7 ¾) for a third-place finish and fifth overall mark in school history.
Wicker won his fifth straight men’s pole vault title, clearing 5.70m (18-8 ¼) on his first attempt. Kyle Hensley added a fourth-place finish, clearing 5.04m (16-6 ½).
Noa Isaia threw 21.01m (68-11 ¼) , taking second in the men’s weight throw. Seth Schnakenberg finished fourth, throwing 20.73m (68-0 ¼).
Luke Noland ran 8.14 in the men’s 60mH finals, grabbing a fourth-place finish after tying his personal best (8.10) in qualifying.
Ashriel Dixon finished eighth in the men’s 60m finals, running 6.91.
In Arkansas, Nash used a monster PR of 1:47.43 to win the men’s 800m event title and move into third in school history.
Emmanuel Rwotomiya ran his way to fourth in school history in the men’s 400m with a time of 46.60, earning a 14th-place finish.
Jordan Metzler added a PR of her own in the women’s 800m, running 2:10.82.
Kavian Kerr finished eighth in the men’s long jump with a mark of 7.44m (24-5).
At the Husky Classic, Nebraska’s women’s distance medley relay team (Kelsie Belquist, Berlyn Schutz, Sydney Drevlow and Jaylee Wingate) ran the second fastest time on an oversized track in school history, running 11:00.71.
NU is back in action at all three locations tomorrow with events starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Heartland Invitational, 11:00 a.m. at the Tyson Invitational and 12:30 p.m. at the Husky Classic.
