Huskers Shut Down Seattle, 9-0

The No. 10 Nebraska softball team was dominant on both sides of the ball and downed the Seattle Redhawks, 9-0, in six innings on Sunday morning in Cathedral City, Calif.

With the win, the Huskers moved to 10-4 on the season and 4-0 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Hannah Camenzind grabbed her second pitching win of the weekend, as she tossed five innings for NU and allowed only four hits and no runs. Kylee Magee threw the final shutout inning for the Big Red.

Offensively, Jordy Frahm had three RBIs on two hits, including a home run. Carlie Muhlbach added two RBIs on two hits, and Ava Kuszak added a triple while Jesse Farrell, Hannah Coor and Lauren Camenzind each contributed a double.

Nebraska struck first, as a Kuszak triple scored H. Camenzind, who walked earlier in the inning. Kuszak crossed the plate on a Muhlbach RBI single and NU led 2-0 after the first.

The Huskers extended the lead to 6-0 in the top of the third on four hits and two errors. Frahm hit a leadoff single and scored on a Farrell double. Kuszak reached on an error, stole second and went to third on another error. Farrell stole home on the error and Muhlbach singled to send Kuszak across the plate. Kacie Hoffmann got to first on a fielder’s choice and scored NU’s final run of the inning on a Coor double.

Talia Tokheim walked and L. Camenzind doubled and both scored on a Frahm three-run shot to stretch the Husker lead to 9-0.

The Huskers will close Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic play 30 minutes after the conclusion of this game. NU will take on California at 1:30 p.m. (CT). The game will be streamed on FloSoftball, which requires a subscription, and can be heard for free across the Huskers Radio Network.
