Wicker Secures First-Team All-America Honors

Nebraska track and field had three athletes compete on the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., highlighted by a fourth-place pole vault finish from Dyson Wicker

Wicker capped off a dominant indoor season with a fourth-place finish in the men’s pole vault. The sophomore cleared 5.70m (18-8 ¼) to claim NCAA First-Team All-America honors. 

The Heath, Texas native won seven pole vault titles during the indoor season and broke the school record five times, including a clearance of 5.79m (19-0) to win the Big Ten Indoor Championships two weeks ago in Indianapolis, Ind.

Berlyn Schutz is the lone runner to compete for the Huskers this weekend. The junior from Lincoln, Neb., ran 4:39.17 in the qualifying round of the women’s mile and will run in the final tomorrow at 4:10 p.m.

Kellyn Kortemeyer rounded out the evening in the women’s weight throw, but did not record a mark.

Kortemeyer shot up the all-time list to second in the weight throw with a mark of 22.00m (72-2 ¼) at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, claiming a top-eight finish. 

Eight Big Red athletes will be competing tomorrow with Cade Moran leading off in the men’s shot put, beginning at 1 p.m. The second day will be streamed on ESPN+.
