Nebraska track and field senior Axelina Johansson was named the Big Ten Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. It marks the second time Johansson has earned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year honors.
A native of Hok, Sweden, Johansson captured her third career NCAA shot put title at the NCAA Indoor Championships last week with a throw of 64-1 3/4 (19.55m).
Johansson also received Big Ten Field Athlete of the Championships accolades after winning the shot put at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with a mark of 63-10 1/2 (19.47m).
Johansson is a five-time Big Ten shot put champion and a three-time NCAA champion. She owns six NCAA medals and eight All-America honors.
Johansson's personal best of 64-8 1/2 (19.72m) set in December is a Swedish national record and NCAA indoor record.
