Huskers Slip to Michigan in Last Regular-Season Meet

Ann Arbor, Mich.- Nebraska lost to Michigan on March 22 in Ann Arbor, with a score of 330.400-325.650. This was Nebraska’s highest team score of the season so far. NU ended the regular season with an overall record of 7-3 and a Big Ten record of 2-2.

Nebraska had six gymnasts receive career-high scores. Those athletes include Wyatt Reynolds on pommel horse, Ty Roderiques on rings and vault, Asher Cohen on rings, Nathan York on vault, Caden Clinton on parallel bars and Max Odden on high bar. Asher Cohen won the rings title, and Nathan York was awarded the vault title.  

The competition started off on floor. Odden, who is ranked ninth in the country in this event, led off for the Huskers. He recorded a 13.65. York followed with a 13.00 and a stuck landing. James went third and was awarded a 13.40. Mondi wrapped up floor for NU with a 13.85.

Michigan had a slight lead over Nebraska with a score of 54.85-53.90. 

The teams moved over to pommel horse, where Reynolds took his usual lead-off spot. He got a career-high score of 13.50. Tarca went second and received a 13.30. Clinton went next and notched a 13.70. York anchored for the Huskers with a 13.70. The Big Red ended with a team event score of 54.20, which was their highest pommel horse score of the season.

After the second rotation, the Huskers tightened the Wolverines' lead with a score of 108.650-108.100.

Nebraska traveled over to rings for the third event of the day. Odden went first for NU and scored a 12.85. Roderiques followed with a stuck landing and a career-high score of 13.35. Rakita, who was awarded CGA and Big Ten Freshman of the Week, went third and notched a 12.60. Cohen, who is ranked first in the country in this event, closed out the rings rotation for the Huskers with a stuck landing and a career-high 14.70. NU ended with a team event score of 53.60, which was their highest team rings score of the season. 

Midway through the competition, Michigan had the lead with a score of 162.900-161.700.

The Huskers moved onto vault, where York got them started with a stuck landing and a career-high 14.60. Roderiques, the freshman out of Tennessee, recorded a career-high of 14.25. James followed with a 14.25. Mondi concluded this rotation for Nebraska with a 14.25. NU ended with a team score of 57.35, which was their highest vault score of the season. 

Michigan remained ahead with a score of 219.750-219.050.

The Big Red headed to parallel bars next. Clinton led off with a career-high 13.75. York, who is ranked first in the country in this event, received a 13.45. Nitache went next and recorded a 13.10 with a stuck landing. Cohen anchored with a 13.65. The Huskers ended with a team event score of 53.95. 

Headed into the final event, Michigan was in the lead with a score of 274.500-273.000.

Nebraska ended the meet on high bar and had Koppie lead off with a 12.50. Tarca had a fall but ended strong with a stuck landing and a 12.50. Nitache followed with a 13.35. Odden, who is ranked second in the country on high bar, wrapped up the competition with a career-high 14.30.

Michigan won over Nebraska with a final score of 330.400-325.650.

Nebraska will have one week off before hosting the Big Ten Championships on April 3-4 at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The meet will be broadcast on Big Ten Network.
