Huskers Knock Off Air Force to Advance to the Second Round

The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team defeated Air Force 195.600-194.475 in the first round of the NCAA Championships at LSU on Wednesday.

Nebraska improved to 8-11 overall, while the Falcons ended their season 15-11.

The Huskers will move to the night session of the second round on Thursday at 7 p.m. They will take on No. 2 seed LSU, No. 15 seed Clemson and Auburn in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The afternoon session of the second round will feature No. 7 seed Stanford, No. 10 seed Michigan, North Carolina and Utah State.

The top two teams from each of the two sessions on April 2 will advance to the regional final on Saturday, April 4.

Rotation One
Behind three 9.800s from Isabel Sikon, Tegan Shaver and Nya Kraus, the Huskers earned a 48.675 on bars. Molly Peterson (9.700) and Karys Griffin (9.575) rounded out the rotation.

Rotation Two
Nebraska continued the night with a 49.025 on vault. Reese Baechle led the way with a season-high 9.875. Shaver (9.850) and Peterson (9.800) followed for the Big Red. Sikon (9.775) and Peyton Pech (9.725) completed the lineup.

Rotation Three
The Huskers moved to floor, where they scored a 49.025 as a team. Both Shaver and Lauren Homecillo notched a 9.850 to lead NU, followed by Kraus (9.825). Sikon (9.750) and Baechle (9.750) rounded out the lineup.

Rotation Four
NU concluded the contest on beam, posting a 48.875. Sikon and Kraus each scored a 9.800 for NU. Homecillo (9.775), Griffin (9.750) and Olivia Burns (9.750) ended the competition.
