No. 19 Nebraska scored four runs in the eighth and had the go-ahead run on base in the ninth, but the Huskers fell 7-6 at No. 21 Oregon on Friday evening.
Nebraska (26-8, 11-2 Big Ten) scored six runs on 10 hits and no errors, while Oregon (25-9, 9-4 Big Ten) tallied seven runs on nine hits and two errors.
Dylan Carey paced the Big Red offense with a 3-for-4 night, three RBI and a home run. Mac Moyer went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored. Miken Miller was 2-for-2, and Jeter Worthley, Jett Buck and Joshua Overbeek tallied one hit each.
Ty Horn started and went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Tucker Timmerman dropped to 2-1 after surrendering two runs in 1.1 innings. Braxton Stewart allowed three runs across three hits and recorded two outs, while Colin Nowaczyk and Kevin Mannell both pitched a scoreless frame.
Nebraska struck first in the opening inning when Moyer doubled to right-center and came around to score on a Carey single through the left side, giving the Huskers a 1-0 lead.
The Ducks grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-RBI double to the gap in left-center field to give Oregon a 2-1 advantage.
Moyer quickly evened the score in the fifth, leading off with a solo home run to left-center to tie the game at two.
Oregon reclaimed the lead for good with a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Following a weather delay of one hour and 42 minutes, the Ducks tacked on three more runs behind back-to-back homers in the bottom of the sixth to grab a 7-2 lead.
Nebraska mounted a rally in the eighth, with Carey connecting on a two-run homer to pull the Huskers within 7-4. After a throwing error put a runner on, Buck singled to score an unearned run, and Stokes later ground out to plate another, making it a one-run game going into the ninth.
Je. Worthley led off the ninth with a single, while Carey was plunked to put runners on first and second with one out. A wild pitch advanced the pair to second and third, but the Big Red couldn’t finish the comeback on Friday night.
