The No. 61 Nebraska men’s tennis team won a thrilling match vs. Penn State, 4-2 on a Friday night match at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln. The Huskers' win improved their chances of making the Big Ten Tournament.
As doubles played out at the Dillon Tennis Center, Nebraska got out to hot starts. The pair of Joan Torres Espinosa/Leo Linquet (NEB) was able to jump out to a 4-2 lead before taking the match vs. David Lindsay/Christos Glavas (PSU), 6-3. At No. 3 doubles, Colson Wells/Henry Lamchinniah (NEB) clinched the doubles point for Nebraska in their match with a 6-2 win vs. Emil Matikainen/Kyle Chesman (PSU) taking the 1-0 lead for the Huskers.
The match at No. 1 doubles between Henry Bilcic/Nikolay Sysoev (NEB) and Michael Wright/Eyal Shyovitz (PSU) was unfinished at 3-4.
As Nebraska led the match going into singles play, Linquet impressed at No. 2 singles through two sets winning his match, 6-2, 6-1, vs. Wright. The next match to conclude was the Niels Van Der Sijs as he dropped his match in two sets vs. Chesman, 3-6, 4-6 bringing Nebraska’s lead to 2-1. The Huskers expanded on that lead with a win at No. 6 where Espinosa took his match in three sets vs. Glavas, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Nebraska battled on three courts to see who would clinch the last point of the match. Wells fell on the losing side, dropping his match on court four, 7-6, 3-6, 2-6, vs. Shyovitz. Sysoev and Jeri Lassila fought on courts one and three in hopes to clinch the match. Sysoev was the one to clinch the match, taking it in a three-set thriller, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 as Nebraska took the match 4-2 vs. Penn State.
Lassila's match was left unfinished at No. 4.

Nebraska will host its final home match of the season vs. No. 2 Ohio State on Sunday, April 19 at 12 p.m. at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center in Lincoln. The match vs. the Buckeyes is set to be held outside, weather permitting with no concessions available allowing outside food and drink into the match.
