Jorgenson Named First-Team CSC Academic All-American

Gena Jorgenson made Nebraska history by capturing first-team Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday, April 28.

Jorgenson, a four-time All-American for the Huskers including three awards in the 1,650 freestyle during her decorated career, became the first swimmer in program history to claim CSC First-Team All-America honors, while also becoming just the second Husker swimmer or diver to claim both first-team All-America honors in the water and the classroom, joining 2021 NCAA Diving first-team All-American and first-team Academic All-American Abi Knapton.

Jorgenson, a senior biological sciences major from Aberdeen, S.D., boasts a 3.95 GPA as one of Nebraska's top academicians across all sports.

The 2026 Big Ten Champion in the 1,650 free, Jorgenson also became the first two-time CSC Academic All-American in Husker swimming and diving history, after winning third-team CSC Academic All-America honors following her junior season in 2025.

A three-time CSC Academic All-District selection (2024, 2025, 2026), Jorgenson was named one of just 15 Nebraska Outstanding Scholars across all sports for 2026. She is a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2024, 2025) and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2024, 2025, 2026). She is also a seven-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

Also a standout in the community, Jorgenson was a four-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and was a 2026 Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award winner.

To be considered CSC Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must carry a minimum GPA of 3.50 and meet high athletic standards.

In the pool, Jorgenson smashed three school records this season, including career-best times in the 1,650 (15:42.94) and 500 freestyles (4:38.77) at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Her time in the 1,650 free was good for a fourth-place NCAA finish, while she adding All-America honors in the 500 free for the first time in her career.

She also set a career-best in the 400 IM with a time of 4:07.84 at the 2026 Big Ten Championships, which was nearly four seconds faster than her previous best set at the 2024 NCAA meet.
