Kaleigh Babineaux earned her team-best seventh top-25 finish of the season to lead Nebraska to a ninth-place team showing at the Chevron Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., Wednesday.
Babineaux, a freshman from Austin, Texas, settled for a final-round 78 after opening with impressive rounds of 69 (-3) and 71 (-1) on 6,146-yard layout of the North Course at the Silverado Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
Junior Hannah Kono added a tie for 27th including the top individual score by a Husker in the final round with a 73 (+1). Kono opened the tournament with a 78 before matching Babineaux's 69 (-3) in Tuesday's second round for Nebraska's top individual score of the event.
Symran Shah's 77 and Ailis Tribolet's 79 rounded out Nebraska's 307 team score on Wednesday.
The Huskers entered the final round in a tie for third with No. 5 Oregon, trailing only the tournament champions from No. 2 Southern California and the runners up from No. 27 Eastern Michigan. Nebraska's final round dropped them into the middle of the pack in a loaded field, with the Huskers still picking up team wins over No. 44 California and No. 45 Oregon State. Six of the teams that finished ahead of Nebraska were ranked among the top 50 in the country. Overall, the Huskers picked up four top-100 wins on the week including victories over No. 72 Northern Arizona and No. 90 Washington.
Shah closed as Nebraska's No. 3 finisher at 227 (+11) in a tie for 50th in an 88-player field, while Brooke Bream finished 74th at 232 (+16). Tribolet rounded out the Husker contingent in a tie for 84th at 237 (+21) with three consecutive rounds of 79.
No. 2 USC won the team title at 827 (-37) by 22 strokes over Eastern Michigan at 849 (-15). No. 5 Oregon took third at 865 (+1), while the hosts from Colorado finished fourth at 876 (+12).
Southern California's Jasmine Koo held off teammates Bailey Shoemaker and Catherine Park for the individual title. Koo fired a final-round 65 (-7) to close at 206 (-10), while Shoemaker and Park finished just one stroke back in a tie for second at 207 (-9).
Trojan teammates Kylie Chong and Sarah Hammett put five USC golfers in the top 10 by tying for ninth at 213 (-3). Overall, six of the top 10 individual finishers in the tournament were ranked among the top 80 golfers in the nation.
Nebraska returns to California in two weeks for the Big Ten Championship (April 24-26). The 18-team nconference tournament will be held at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
