Big Red Travel West For Desert Heat Classic

After an impressive showing at the Drake Relays, the Nebraska track and field team heads to Tucson, Ariz., for the Desert Heat Classic on Saturday, May 2. Field events are set for 1 p.m. (CT), and running events will begin at 4:50 p.m. (CT).

Huskers in the Polls
In this week’s USTFCCCA rankings, the Nebraska track and field team saw both the men and women inside the top 10 for the third week in a row. The Husker men are ranked 9th and the women moved up to 8th. 

The men lead the nation in the shot put and javelin event groups, and are top three in the discus and hammer throw. For the women, they top the shot put and high jump rankings, while being third in discus and ninth in both javelin and hammer. 

Schutz, Lambert Earn Big Ten Weekly Awards
Berlyn Schutz was named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Hencu Lamberts earned Men’s Freshman of the Week accolades. 

Schutz won the mile race at the Drake Relays with the No. 3 time in NCAA Outdoor history. She clocked a 4:27.30 to finish as the top collegiate in the race, also setting a school record in the process. The junior from Lincoln now owns eight Nebraska school records. 

Lamberts won his shot put flight at the Drake Relays with a personal-best mark of 65-3 1/4 (19.89m). His throw ranks fourth in the Big Ten this season and No. 5 in the nation. Lamberts moved up to No. 8 in school history and has now earned two Big Ten Outdoor Freshman of the Week honors this season.
