Huskers Down Penn State in Game One of Doubleheader

The No. 3 Nebraska softball team kept the pressure on Penn State, scoring in five of seven innings, and defeated the Nittany Lions, 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in State College, Pa.

With the win, the Huskers improved to 41-6 with a 21-1 mark in Big Ten play, and clinched a share of the Big Ten regular season title. If NU wins another game this weekend, it will clinch the outright conference title.

Hannah Coor had two hits and two RBI to pace the Husker offense, while Jesse Farrell added a home run and two hits. Lauren Camenzind also had two hits and an RBI. Jordy Frahm, Ava Kuszak and Kacie Hoffmann contributed a hit apiece.

Frahm (16-4) earned the win in the circle after pitching a complete game with only four hits and one run while striking out seven and walking none.

Nebraska struck first, as Frahm knocked a leadoff double, went to third on a Coor groundout and scored on a wild pitch to give NU a 1-0 lead.

Penn State scored its lone run of the game on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the first and tied the game at 1-1.

Hoffmann walked in the top of the second and crossed the plate on a L. Camenzind triple.

In the top of the fifth, L. Camenzind singled and went to second on a Frahm groundout before scoring on a Coor RBI single.

Farrell hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 4-1.

Kennadi Williams scored NU’s final run of the game, as she pinch ran for Hoffmann, who doubled, and went home on a Coor single.

Nebraska and Penn State will play the second game of today’s doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. (CT). The contest will be televised on the Big Ten Network and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network or on B107.3 FM.

Notes

  • With the win, Nebraska clinched a share of the Big Ten regular season title. It is Nebraska’s first conference title since 2022, when the Huskers won the Big Ten Tournament, and the first regular season title since Nebraska shared the 2014 Big Ten regular season title with Michigan.
  • The conference title marks Nebraska’s 11th regular season title and 21st overall conference title.
  • Rhonda Revelle is the sixth coach in Big Ten history to win multiple regular-season titles. She has now won a conference title in four different decades (1998 - Big 12, 2001 and 2004 - Big 12, 2014 - Big Ten, 2026 - Big Ten).
  • The Huskers now have a 16-game win streak and have won 30 of their last 31 games. NU’s 16-game win streak is the second-longest active win streak in the country.
  • Jordy Frahm now has a 35-game on-base streak and Hannah Camenzind has reached base 31 games in a row.
  • Nebraska has scored in 32 of its last 42 innings and 9 of its last 11.
  • Nebraska has the longest conference winning streak in the nation at 14 games.
  • The Huskers also have the longest active road win streak at 14 games.
  • Jordy Frahm and Alexis Jensen both have double-digit wins in conference play and are the first duo to both have double-digit Big Ten wins since Maria Barda and Jamie Gillies did it at Michigan in 1999.
