No. 16 Nebraska suffered a 2-1 setback at Ohio State on Friday night at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Nebraska (34-12, 17-5 Big Ten) scored one run on four hits and one error, while Ohio State (22-21, 11-11 Big Ten) tallied two runs on four hits and no errors.
Drew Grego recorded a hit and drove in Nebraska’s lone run, while Mac Moyer, Jeter Worthley and Trey Fikes tallied a hit apiece.
Despite dropping to 8-2 on the season, Carson Jasa turned in his fifth quality start of the season. The right-hander gave up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks across six innings. Ty Horn pitched two perfect frames with three punchouts to close it out.
Ohio State scratched across its first run in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly after consecutive singles to begin the inning.
The Huskers threatened in the top of the fifth with runners on second and third with two outs, but a groundout put a halt to the Big Red’s threat and kept it a 1-0 game through five innings.
The Buckeyes doubled their lead in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to deep center after opening the inning with a leadoff double.
Back-to-back walks to Dylan Carey and Jett Buck in the top of the ninth brought the go-ahead run to the plate for the Husker offense with no outs. Grego’s RBI groundout scored Carey from third and trimmed the deficit to 2-1.
A wild pitch advanced the tying run to third with two outs, but a strikeout put an end to the frame to clinch Ohio State’s 2-1 victory on Friday night.
