Cohen Secures Spot on U.S. National Team

Husker graduate Asher Cohen earned a spot on the U.S. National Team following a dominant performance at the Xfinity U.S. National Championships Aug. 6-8 in Phoenix, Arizona.

The selection marked Cohen’s first time earning a spot on the U.S. National Team. He was also named USA Gymnastics Sportsman of the Year.

On the first day of competition, Cohen posted a 15.075 on rings to take first place. He also recorded a 12.050 on pommel horse, a 13.600 on parallel bars and a 13.000 on high bar.

Cohen finished with a combined rings score of 29.950 to claim the U.S. National Championships title on the event. He also posted a 24.400 on pommel horse, a 27.950 on parallel bars and a 25.750 on high bar.

Current Husker gymnast Alex Nitache finished second on vault with a combined score of 27.170. He also competed in the all-around, finishing with a combined score of 149.344.

Incoming freshmen Ty Herzing and Danny Sanjuanico also competed at the championships. Herzing finished with a combined all-around score of 144.700, while Sanjuanico recorded a combined score of 141.400.
