Huskers Grab Road Win at Louisville

The Nebraska soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 3-1 win over the Louisville Cardinals on Wednesday night in Louisville, Ky. The Huskers start the year at 1-0-0, while Louisville, which received votes in the USCA Preseason Poll, is 0-1-0. 

Nathalie Lewis, Ella Rudney and Ava Makovicka recorded goals in the victory, while Sadie Sant and Jo Sees each earned an assist. Sant added two shots while Maggie Drozda notched one. Avery Gillahan (1-0-0) played all 90 minutes in goal and grabbed the win while also registering six saves. 

As a team, the Big Red recorded eight shots, five of which were on goal, while allowing seven shots on goal from the Cardinals. The Huskers also held off eight corner kick attempts from UofL. 

NU struck first on a goal from Lewis just three minutes into the game, a shot into the bottom center of the net. 

The Huskers extended the lead to 2-0 on a penalty kick score from Rudney in the 26th minute before adding another goal, a cross into the upper right corner of the net, from Makovicka in the 78th minute. 

Louisville posted its only goal of the match with less than two minutes left to play. 

The Huskers will host the South Dakota Coyotes at Barbara Hibner Stadium on Sunday, Aug. 16. The match is set to start at 1:05 p.m. (CT) and will be streamed on B1G+. Tickets are available at Huskers.com/tickets.
