Jorgenson Shatters Five School Records at Nationals

At the 2026 U.S. National Championships for swimming, Gena Jorgenson completed her time with Nebraska with five school records and five personal best marks. 

Hosted at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif., Jorgenson was joined by Big Red teammate Riley Miklos. The rising junior from Richmond, Va., Miklos, qualified based on her times at the Speedo Sectionals in Colombia from mid-July. 

Jorgenson began her long course success with her swim in the 800m free on Tuesday, where she accomplished her best placing of second with a finals time of 8:31.18. In her other timed race, the 1500m free, Jorgenson accomplished a third-place mark. Her time of 16:12.73 was a 1.14-second improvement on her previous mark set at the TYR Pro Series in June. 

In the 400m free, Jorgenson notched a seventh-place final swim with a time of 4:10.33. She took the next school-best marks in the 200m back with a 19th-place time of 2:12.36 and the 400m IM with a time of 4:47.35. 

Head coach Pablo Morales spoke on Jorgenson’s career as one of the most accomplished swimmers in NU history, “Amazing finish to an amazing career. Gena has been one of the highest performers and most consistent improvers in program history. True to form, she wraps up her senior year (collegiate season and summer) with an incredible run of personal best times and school records.” 

Accomplishing a finals swim in the 200m free, Miklos achieved a 20th-place swim with a time of 2:00.98 at her first Nationals competition. Additionally, competing in the 400m free prelims, Miklos swam a time of 4:19.40. 

Swimming in Madison, Wisc., Amelia Riggott took the title in the 50 breast in the TYR Futures Championships.
