LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska applied pressure throughout but could not capitalize, falling to No. 18 Alabama, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference soccer action at Hibner Stadium.
The Huskers (1-1-2) outshot the Crimson Tide (4-0-0) by a commanding 22-to-5 margin but could not find the back of the net.
Nebraska had multiple opportunities in both halves but could not finish with a goal. Ella Rudney and Nathalie Lewis led the Big Red with four shots apiece, including an unsuccessful penalty kick from Rudney early in the second half.
Ashley Roni posted a brace for Alabama, recording a goal less than two minutes in the game before adding another score in the 53rd minute. Madi Munguia got the start at goalie for Alabama, notching five saves.
Nebraska also outpaced Alabama in corner kicks (10-2) and fouls (19-11).
The Huskers will wrap up their four-game homestand on Thursday, Aug. 27, against the Omaha Mavericks. Kickoff from Hibner Stadium is set for 7 p.m. (CT), with streaming available on B1G+.
