Borer’s Late Goal Lifts Huskers Past No. 20 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Nebraska senior defender Reese Borer headed the ball into the back right corner with less than two minutes left, leading the Huskers to a 1-0 win over No. 20 Michigan on Sunday afternoon at UM Soccer Stadium.

Borer’s goal was her first of the season, giving Nebraska (3-3-5, 1-2-2 Big Ten) its first conference win of the season and first victory over a ranked opponent since defeating Ohio State 5-0 in 2022. Karli Williams picked up her first assist of the season, sending the ball in on a free kick.

Nebraska’s win over Michigan (4-3-3, 2-3-0 Big Ten) is also the first road win over a ranked opponent for the Huskers since a 1-0 win over Penn State on Sept. 27, 2018.

Borer, a Lincoln, Neb., native, scored her first goal of the season and second in her career. Williams tallied the first assist of the season while recording a shot. Avery Gillahan posted her fourth clean sheet in 2026, finishing with six saves.

Despite Michigan controlling the first half, the teams went into the locker room scoreless. The Wolverines held an 8-1 lead in shots and narrowly scored multiple times, but the Nebraska defense kept Michigan off the board.

Nebraska returns home to host Wisconsin on Sunday, Oct. 4, at Barbara Hibner Stadium at 12:30 p.m. (CT).
