Babinaeux Leads Huskers at The Bruzzy

Kaleigh Babineaux fired an eight-under-par 136 through the first 36 holes to lead the Nebraska women's golf team on the opening day of The Bruzzy presented by Ashley Herrera in Trophy Club, Texas, Tuesday.

Babineaux, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, ended the day in a tie for third individually including a career-best-tying 67 (-5) in the second round. She opened the tournament with a 69 (-3) on the par-72, 6,291-yard layout at the Trophy Club.

Babineaux sits just one shot back of tournament leaders Victoria Schuldt (UTSA) and Isabel Brozena (Xavier), who ended the first 36 holes in a tie for first at 135 (-9). 

With Babineaux leading the way, Nebraska sits in fifth place alongside Big Ten counterpart Illinois and Xavier in a three-way tie for fifth at 567 (-9).

Oklahoma owns the top spot on the team leaderboard heading to the final round. The Sooners fired rounds of 274 and 283 to end the day at 557 (-19), four strokes ahead of UTSA in second place at 561 (-15).

Texas A&M (564) and Texas Tech (566) sit just ahead of the Huskers, Fighting Illini and Musketeers in the team standings.

Hannah Kono surged in the second round with a 69 (-3) after opening the day with a and even-par 72. The senior from Enkoping, Sweden, heads to Wednesday's final round in a tie for 15th at 139 (-3).

Ailis Tribolet, a sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., added back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 and sits in a tie for 27th at 144.

Graduate student Lauren Thiele (Wahoo, Neb.) completed the day a second-round score of 71 (-1) after opening with a 75 to head to the final round tied for 39th at 146 (+2).

Olivia Lovegrove, a junior from Lincoln, rounded out Nebraska's lineup with rounds of 75 and 76 to sit in a tie for 51st at 151 (+7).

The Bruzzy presented by Ashley Herrera will conclude on Wednesday with the third round, which is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (CT).
