2025-26 (Sophomore)
Kayla Starr appeared in 105.2 games this season, 28 of those being individual. Starr scored a season-high 257 at the Big Red Invitational in February and had a 200.2 game average for the season with 5,648 total pinfall. At Destination Orlando, Starr finished a season-high 24th with a 194.2 average over 5 games. In addition to her athletic achievements, Starr also excels academically. She was named Academic All-Big Ten, recognized on the CUSA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and a two time Tom Osborne Citizenship Team selection.
2024-25 (Freshman)
As a freshman, Kayla Starr was named a NTCA Second Team All-American, competing in 93 total games for the Huskers, 41 individually. Starr was also named to the NTCA All-Rookie Team and averaged a 210.41 on the season, good for fourth best all-time by a Nebraska freshman. Starr finished the season with a fifth-place finish at the Garden State Classic, highlighted by a 279 game-high, and two top-10 finishes, at the Storm Flyer Classic and Mid-Winter Invitational. Off the lanes, Starr was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She was also a NTCA Second-Team All-American, NTCA All-Rookie Team, NTCA All-Academic Scholar.
Before Nebraska
Starr, a right-handed bowler from Crofton, Md., brings immense levels of experience to the Cornhusker bowling program. She holds a high game of 300 and has demonstrated high performance levels at the Junior Gold championships. Starr earned runner-up honors at 2021 Junior Gold, while placing in the top five in 2022, and finishing third in 2024. She also finished second at the 2022 PBA Jr. Nationals and was crowned national champion in 2024. In 2022, Starr was a member of the Jr. Team USA Development Team. Additionally, Starr highlights her resume by being crowned a three-time Virginia State Pepsi Champion (2019, 2021, 2022).
Personal
The daughter of Ed and Joanna Starr, Kayla intends to major in marketing. Her current career goal is to bowl full-time on the PWBA Tour and work in a sports marketing department. She has earned three spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She is also a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She was also a NTCA Second-Team All-American, named Academic All-Big Ten, NTCA All-Rookie Team, NTCA All-Academic Scholar her freshman year.
