Amare Sanders has played in three games as a true freshman. He recorded the first two tackles of his career and his first pass breakup against Northern Iowa.
Before Nebraska (Gulliver Prep HS)
Sanders came to Nebraska after starring at Gulliver Prep in Miami for Coach Earl Sims. The talented three-sport athlete was one of the most coveted defensive back recruits in Florida.
Sanders recorded 54 tackles with a pair of interceptions as a senior, according to MaxPreps. His play helped the Raiders advance to the regional quarterfinals of the state playoffs. On offense, Sanders rushed for 112 yards and one score as a senior and caught six passes for 51 yards and one touchdown. As a junior, he had 49 tackles with two interceptions and seven passes defended.
Sanders also played basketball for Gulliver Prep, averaging 6.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his career, according to MaxPreps. As a sophomore, Sanders averaged 11.1 points per
Sanders was regarded as a three-star prospect. He was ranked among the top 60 cornerbacks nationally by Rivals.
