2024 (Freshman)
Ashton Murphy has played in one game as a true freshman, making his Husker debut against UTEP.
Before Nebraska (Elkhorn South HS)
Murphy joined the Husker program after an outstanding prep career at Elkhorn South High School. Murphy played for Coach Guy Rosenberg and helped the Storm rank as one of the state’s top programs over his final two seasons.
Murphy earned first-team All-Nebraska and first-team Super-State honors from the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star, respectively, in 2023. Murphy made 65 tackles, while adding six tackles for loss and four sacks in his senior season. He also excelled on the offensive line, helping Elkhorn South average more than 215 yards per game on the ground. His play helped the Storm to an 11-2 record and a trip to the Class A state championship game.
Murphy also excelled as a junior, helping Elkhorn South to a perfect regular season and a trip to the second round of the state playoffs. Murphy had 37 tackles, five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks to earn honorable-mention all-state recognition.
Murphy also competed in track, finishing seventh in the shot put at the 2023 Class A state meet.
Murphy was ranked as a consensus top-10 player in the state of Nebraska and was listed among the top 50 defensive linemen in the country by 247 Sports.
