2024 (Senior)
DeShon Singleton has started every game this season. He has recorded a career-high 50 tackles with 1.0 tackle for loss, a career-high two pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Singleton ranks second on the team in tackles.
Against UTEP, Singleton recorded two tackles. He then tied for the team lead with six tackles against Colorado, including five solo stops. Singleton recorded six tackles against Northern Iowa. He finished with six tackles against Illinois, his third straight game with six tackles. Singleton also recovered a fumble against the Illini that set up a Husker touchdown. He finished with four tackles at Purdue. Singleton had five tackles against Rutgers with one pass breakup. He totaled three solo tackles at Indiana. Singleton had a career-high 10 tackles at Ohio State, leading the team in tackles while adding one pass breakup. Singleton totaled eight solo tackles against UCLA.
2023 (Junior)
Singleton started at safety in the first five games before his season-ending injury against Michigan. Singleton wore the No. 8 as one of 10 Huskers to earn a single-digit number in a team vote selecting him as one of Nebraska’s “toughest” players.
Singleton made his first start at Nebraska against Minnesota and tied for the team lead with seven tackles. Singleton also broke up one pass against the Gophers. At Colorado,
Singleton had three solo tackles, including a two-yard tackle for loss for his first career TFL. Singleton tied his career high with seven tackles against Louisiana Tech while setting a career high with 1.5 tackles for loss. He was injured on the opening series against Michigan.
2022 (Sophomore)
Singleton played on special teams in every game in his first season at Nebraska in 2022. He also saw action on defense in six contests. Singleton posted his first tackle as a Husker against Indiana. He recorded two tackles at No. 3 Michigan, one on defense and one on kickoff coverage.
Before Nebraska (St. Helena HS/Hutchinson [Kan.] CC)
Singleton joined Nebraska after spending the 2021 season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. Singleton helped Hutchinson to a 9-2 record, a top-10 ranking and a victory in the Salt City Bowl in his lone season as a Blue Dragon. He recorded 21 tackles on the season with 2.5 tackles for loss, a pair of interceptions and two pass breakups.
Singleton joined Hutchinson from St. Helena College and Career Academy in Louisiana, where he played quarterback and safety.
A three-star recruit, Singleton was rated among the top 20 prospects in the 247Sports Composite junior college rankings. The No. 4 junior college safety, Singleton chose Nebraska after also considering Kansas and Kansas State, among others.
Personal
DeShon is the son of Ursula Tyree and Darrel Singleton, and he was born on Feb. 4, 2003. He is majoring in child, youth and family studies. His younger brother, DJ, joined the Huskers this summer as a receiver.
