2024 (Redshirt Freshman)
After battling an early injury, Gunnar Gottula has played in 10 games this season with the first eight starts of his career, all at left tackle. He made his season debut against Northern Iowa after missing the first two games. Gottula played the majority of the game at left tackle against Illinois following an injury to starting left tackle Turner Corcoran. He started the next game at left tackle and started the final eight games of the regular season at left tackle.
2023 (Redshirt)
Gottula earned a spot on Nebraska's depth chart at left tackle as a true freshman and played in four games while using his redshirt season.
Before Nebraska (Lincoln Southeast HS)
Gottula was a standout offensive lineman for Lincoln Southeast High School. The Knights were coached by his father, Ryan.
Gunnar was a three-year starting lineman for Southeast. The Omaha World-Herald named him a first-team All-Nebraska selection as a senior, and he was a second-team All-Nebraska pick as a junior. Gottula was also chosen as a first-team Super-State honoree by the Lincoln Journal Star as a senior, and he was a second-team Super-State selection as a junior. He also earned honorable-mention all-state accolades as a sophomore. Lincoln Southeast advanced to the playoffs in each of Gottula’s three seasons as a starter, including a run to the Class A quarterfinals in 2020.
Gottula was ranked as a four-star recruit by Rivals, which ranked him among the top 35 offensive tackles in the country. He also visited Iowa State and had offers from Iowa and Kansas State, among others.
Personal
Gunnar is the son of Ryan and Stefanie Gottula, and he was born on Sept. 13, 2004. Gunnar is majoring in management.
